The Big Corn Island
Big Corn Island is a small island (10 km²) 70 km off the atlantic coast of Nicaragua. An isolated paradise in the Caribbean it was a frequented by piratees and buccaneers in the 17th century and was a British protectorate from 1655 until 1894. The islanders are English-speaking Creole people of mixed black heritage. The grounds are rich with exotic fruit trees, palms and surrounded by white sand beaches and coral reefs. The turquoise seas of Corn Island still contain shipwrecks and treasures that serve as reminders of the past.
